Maria Hueber is a pioneer of education for girls and women in Tyrol and the first Tyrolean woman to found a religious order. The congregation she began in 1700, the Tertiary Sisters of St. Francis, remains numerically the largest female community of South Tyrol. Maria Hueber certainly counts as one of the most notable women in the history of Tyrol and still has what it takes to be a role model today; information about her life has been preserved and studied and she is being considered for beatification.
